Tired eyes (tile colours)

My question is this, has anyone else suffered from bad headaches or eye problems as a result of the trax colour scheme? The red/black contrast gives me visual disturbance, and odd fringing effects I was wondering if a gentler colour contrast (subject to colour blindness considerations) on a pale tile would be better. Or possibly black/white on a green tile?

Any thoughts....?

Hi, I think the red background is even worse. I'd prefer black/white on green myself, or two tone contrasted colours on a pale tile. I find I have difficulty playing as red. I was almost tempted to buy a second set or make a set myself, with no offence to David. Having said all that, the feel of the Bakelite tiles is really nice.

Colour of Strategy holds a world wide licence to sell Trax
tiles and they preferred Red and White on Black tiles to Black and White on red tiles as being classier and less like a toy. I agree with that and experience shows that whatever the colour combos players havce all sorts of preferences.
Some prefer to play one of the colours over the other and always choose that option when availabls. Mike McMannaway is aware of this discussion but I doubt any changes will be made short term. The game is on sale in most Eurpean countries and doing especially well in Bermany where the name needed to be changed to ZART for trade mark reasons !!

Sorry out the typos. Germany and the UK are the most sucessful
countries at the present time.

I have no problem with that. I'd only comment that an alternative of red/black on a cream tile would be the same scheme as playing cards, which I trust nobody would think of as a toy. :-)

Mark Thompson made his own set, red and black lines on a white background. See http://home.flash.net/~markthom/html/trax.html

Making your own set would be a lot of work, but one possible resource for that might be www.alumilite.com

Just as a matter of curiosity, when strong players use a physical set, how many tiles should they have to be certain they won't run out?

To be certain? An infinity of them :)

The only one time I played versus David Bailey face to face, 2 sets were enough though.

I would estimate, we might have to use a 3rd set, once every 20 games.

It occurred to me that if they were printed on thin card like playing cards you could carry quite a quantity around in a small packet. Nice though the tiles are, the bulk of one bag is something that has to be contemplated when travelling. A packet of cards often wins out here.
