In this issue, we feature the results of the Candidate's Tournament for the 1994 World Trax Championship.First of all, I would like to congratulate all the qualifiers for winning or placing well in their respective qualifier tournaments. It has been encouraging to see the game becoming more widespread, as evidenced by the two entries from outside New Zealand.
The quality of the games in the Candidate's Tournament has improved this year, averaging two to three moves longer than in past years. The resulting longer games caused a few minor scheduling problems for the organisers. To reduce the fatigue on players, this may be the last Candidate's Tournament to be held over a weekend.
Finally, the inclusion of overseas players through a computer link proved a great success. It has allowed 'live' play without the significant costs of travel. I am sure this approach will become more widely used in subsequent international tournaments.
